digital signage GLOSSARY

Composite Playlist

A Composite Playlist is a display layout that divides a single screen into multiple synchronized zones, with each zone playing its own playlist, web source, app, or HDMI input. Unlike a simple playlist that runs one piece of content at a time, a composite layout supports parallel content streams arranged in a coherent visual composition.

The composite model is the foundation of multi-zone, picture-in-picture and ticker layouts: a main video area combined with a side panel, a news ticker, a clock or weather widget, and an interactive zone. Each zone has its own scheduling logic and can be updated independently.

Use Cases

Composite playlists are how a single display becomes a multi-channel communication surface — denser information without sacrificing visual clarity.

With Livesignage, composite playlists are designed visually in the no-code editor:
- Retail menu boards: hero food video plus dynamic price and promotion panels.
- Corporate dashboards: KPIs, news ticker, weather and meeting room status on one screen.
- Public transport: timetables, route maps, alerts and ads in parallel zones.
- Conference and event signage: agenda, live feed and sponsor messages combined.

The platform also supports composite scheduling — different layouts at different times of day or for different audience contexts.
