An Outdoor Display is a professional-grade screen engineered for direct exposure to weather and sunlight. Outdoor displays integrate three layers of engineering not found in indoor units: high-brightness panels (typically 2,500–5,000+ nits), IP-rated enclosures with active or passive cooling, and anti-glare/anti-reflective coatings that preserve readability under sunlight.

Most outdoor displays are based on LCD with high-brightness LED backlights, or direct-view LED for the largest installations. Vendors include Samsung Outdoor, LG Outdoor, Daktronics, and specialized integrators. Livesignage manages outdoor displays through the same cloud platform as indoor, with built-in tools for scheduled brightness curves, energy optimization, and remote monitoring of signal, temperature and uptime.

Use Cases

Outdoor Displays are deployed where indoor units cannot survive:

- DOOH and roadside advertising: high-brightness billboards and transit screens.
- Retail forecourts: drive-thru menu boards, gas station promotions.
- Stadium and event venues: perimeter LED, scoreboards, parking signage.
- Transportation: platform displays, station wayfinding, taxi-rank info.
- Smart city: civic information totems, plazas, transit interchanges.
