digital signage GLOSSARY

Private Data Source

A Private Data Source in digital signage is an internal, authenticated data feed that the platform reads through secure connections — typically an enterprise ERP, CRM, BI tool, HR system, or internal database. Unlike public feeds (weather, news, traffic), private data sources require authentication, often network isolation, and must satisfy the organization's information security policies.

In Livesignage, private data sources are configured on the Enterprise and Phygital license tiers with SSO, OAuth 2.0, API key authentication, and IP allowlisting. The platform supports both pull (Livesignage polls the source) and push (the source posts to Livesignage via webhook) integration patterns, and every connection is recorded in the audit trail for compliance.

Use Cases

Private Data Sources are typical of organizations operating signage as an operational tool:

- Corporate: KPI dashboards from internal BI tools, HR announcements from HRIS.
- Banking: real-time rates from internal pricing engines, branch metrics from BI.
- Healthcare: patient and queue data from EHR and clinical systems.
- Industrial: production KPIs from MES, OEE metrics from manufacturing systems.
- Retail: live inventory, pricing and customer data from internal ERP and CRM.
